Bill Croft


Bill Croft was a Police Officer for 30 years, the majority of time being spent in operational, (uniform, CID & Drugs) roles, although during the last 8 years the emphasis was on Crime Reduction, which included dealing with racial attacks, child protection and crime reduction. From February 1991 to May 1994, before being seconded to the Home Office Crime Prevention College, Bill was the Head of Crime Prevention for West Midlands Police.

From May 1994 until November 1996 Bill was a Chief Inspector seconded to the Home Office Crime Prevention College dealing with outside organizations and the Police Service.  He sat on a number of committees and was the Home Office advisor to a number of organizations including the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, a working party to give advice to people with disabilities, ALARM (Association of Local Authority Risk Managers) executive committee, The Home Office Crime Pattern Analysis Working Group, BOSS (British Oil & Petrol Security), ACPO Drugs Partnership Working Group, CCTV Liaison Officers Working Group, and the British Standards Committee.

Skills and Experience:-

Bill has carried out a great deal of research into crimes committed against the retail sector and has worked with major shopping centres, as well as small businesses.  He was responsible for developing an innovative scheme called IMPACT, which is a proactive intelligence, and information gathering system aimed at both the prevention and detection of crime in the retail environment.

Bill has re-written a books for BOSS and the Home Office aimed primarily at petrol retailers and garages called ‘MOTOR TRADE SECURITY’, and is also the author of books, videos and audio tapes on personal safety at work, personal safety for children, and personal safety for vulnerable adults, all sponsored by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. Bill has also appeared in a number of television documentaries, newspaper and magazine articles in connection with security, training and crime prevention.

Bill has a number of years of direct experience within the security industry; since 1996 he has managed a successful company as a security consultant, training provider and external verifier for two national awarding bodies.  Clients include NCFE, Edexcel, The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Case Global, PSC, Senate Training, Aid Training and Operations, Showsec, Cougar Monitoring, West Midlands Community Wardens Resource Centre, and the National Security Inspectorate.

An experience External Verifier working with NCFE and Edexcel, moderating and verifying a number of security related subjects including Close Protection, Event Stewards, various security qualifications, Investigations, Custodial Care, Public Services, Equality and Diversity and Occupational Health & Safety at over twenty centres in England and Wales. Also delivers ‘train the trainer’ sessions in assessement and verification for NCFE, Edexcel and for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, an Internal Verifer of City & Guilds 7302 and 1886 Qualifications and a Quality Auditor.

Bill has also written a number of qualifications in Personal Safety at Work and has been involved in working parties developing security related qualifications.
